Our next meeting is on
Monday, March 7 and will be Gadget Night.
If you're like most camera enthusiasts, you've picked up a gadget (or eleventy-hundred) along the way. Sometimes, a new gadget will immediately become part of your core kit.
At other times, we have big plans and good intentions when we buy it, but it sits forgotten in a gear closet. And, sometimes we can't quite figure out why we thought it would be useful, or how it's supposed to work.
At our next meeting, we invite you to brag on your favorite gadget or - alternately - to share your curiosity or consternation about a gadget that didn't quite live up to the hype.
* Please bring in only a single gadget (or one gadget kit used for a related purpose).
* If you have one or two photos (no more than 2) that illustrate your use of this tool, please bring them on a USB drive or email in advance to oviedophotoclub.program@gmail.com * You can do a brief demo if you'd like to show how it's used, but keep in mind that we won't be able to view any images taken at the meeting.

There's a Fifth Monday in February, so we'll be meeting at 6:30 PM on February 29th for a casual dinner. But, wait, we're trying a new location. The February dinner will be at the Macaroni Grill on Red Bug in Oviedo.
RSVP to our email address with "Macaroni" as the Subject so we can ensure there are enough places set at the table.

Plan ahead! We will be hosting a booth at the Oviedo Farmer's Market the first Saturday in March, so decide what you would like to display.
Space is a bit more restricted this year, so we are asking that members submit no more than three photographs and we will not be able to accommodate boxed prints. All photographs should be mounted or framed and ready to hang.
As in prior years, the photographs may be offered for sale or simply displayed to "show off" your work. Any photograph offered for sale must be marked with a price and the member must be present.
The Oviedo Farmer's Market is held the first Saturday of each month at the Lawton House.

CITY HALL GALLERY

OVIEDO CITY HALL GALLERY
Plan ahead! We will be rotating five of the ten City Hall photos out and adding five new photographs in March. The deadline for submission is midnight on March 13, 2016. The theme for the five new photographs is "Nature", and should represent nature as seen in the Oviedo area. Any type of nature photography - birds, animals, plants, landscapes - will be considered if it was photographed in Seminole County and preferably in the Oviedo area. To be considered, upload your photograph(s) to this Zenfolio gallery in either landscape or portrait mode in color or monochrome. While a photograph of any size or any resolution can be submitted, if your photograph is chosen you will need to provide a copy that can be cropped to a 4x3 or 3x4 ratio and enlarged to 16" x 12" or 12" x 16" for printing.
Do not watermark your image, but include your name in the copyright box. However, the curator will not see the photographer's name.
If your photograph is chosen, there will be a charge of about $40 for framing and printing, but the framed print will be returned to you when it is rotated out.
Only submissions from Members will be considered.

I know you've heard the expression if you don't like the weather just wait a few minutes. Over the last month we've seen the truth behind the saying with temperatures ranging from freezing to hot, sometimes on the same day.
We've had moody foggy mornings, subdued overcast rainy days, and rare cool, crisp days with blue skies and fluffy white clouds. Each variation in the weather affects everything about a nature photograph. It can cause flowers to bloom, and birds (and photographers) to stay snug in their cozy nests. You can take photos of the same landscape over a single hour, several days, months or years and every shot can result in a photograph that expresses a totally different feeling. A photographer in Korea has taken this to the extreme. Over four years,Ahae went to one open window in his studio and took a photo of anything that caught his eye. Over those years he took over 2.6 million photos, one at a time, almost all hand held and all with natural light. You probably won't be surprised to learn he does very little post processing other than cropping, removing spots and slightly adjusting the contrast. I can't imagine having the time or dedication to take 2,000 - 4,000 photos a day to get the perfect nature shots. But, I do hope you make the time to take photos of any favorite subject to hang at the Farmer's Market and nature photos to submit for the City Hall Gallery. Katja Michael said, "Nature is a picture waiting to be taken". It doesn't wait for long. Don't miss this opportunity to get your perfect shot for these two opportunities to display your work.

MARINA WALK LAKE MONROE RIVERWALK
SATURDAY, MARCH 26, 2016
Our next field trip will be to Sanford's RiverWalk on Lake Monroe at the Marina. We will meet at 5 PM in front of the Riverwalk Pizzeria at the entrance to the marina on the corner of Palmetto and Seminole Blvd. Seminole Blvd. will be blocked for the car show, and the closest parking will be at the Court House parking lot. Expect a crowd, and a walk to the marina, so arrive early. The photographic opportunities will range from old cars to new boats and a sunset over the lake. Sunset will be at approximately 7:40 PM. The Celery City Cruisers will be there for their monthly car show and with a DJ providing entertainment. At the January show there were over 200 cars on display. Pleasure boats in the marina are always photographable, and the Rivership "Barbara-Lee" - a stern-wheel paddleboat - may be at dock. There are many flower beds and birds in the area. We will meet up after the photo shoot at a local restaurant...location to be decided. If you will be attending, email us at oviedophotoclub@gmail.com so we'll know who to look for. It's a good idea to include your mobile phone number in the RSVP.

Photos of the above events should be uploaded to your personal Zenfolio site and then copied to the appropriate event gallery, Our website will have links to the appropriate gallery.
It is always appreciated if you RSVP your intentions to volunteer at any event so that we will know we have coverage at the event.

Oviedo Photo Club membership renewals are due. Our website has a link to pay by credit card or dues may be paid at a meeting. Annual individual dues remain at $25.00.
A new Zenfolio password will be assigned in March and sent to paid-up members.

It can be found with a simple search for Oviedo Photo Club. Here, we will post photos and Zenfolio links to public events and field trips, meeting information, etc. You can join our public page by liking this page.
This page is not open to the public. Individuals must request to join the group and be approved to participate. Members of the group will receive notice of new postings in the group on their personal Newsfeed. Those who do not wish to receive these notices can adjust their account settings. All members of the group can post to this page and interact with each other.
To become a member of the group OPC members who have a Facebook account should click the "Join" button at the bottom left of the banner photo. Your request will be forwarded to the current members of the group, and any of them can accept your request.

We recently revised our club logo - the chicken - to include a blue tailfeather. The now-appropriately colored chicken is available to be embroidered on a shirt or other item at:

You can bring in your own item, or they will obtain one for you. Be sure to specify that you want the new logo. |
You'll notice, when you open our website (click on the chicken), a slideshow of photographs by our members.
Is yours there? If not, it should be. We'd like every member represented. A landscape format is preferred, but not mandatory. The preferred dimensions are 900 x 600 pixels (a 3:2 ratio) but your image can be adjusted if necessary. Send in your favorite photograph.
